Client
A mid-career Researcher at a leading Australian University.
The Brief
The Researcher felt ready for promotion but was uncertain on how to create the narrative for her application. Her discipline was bespoke and so did not easily confirm to discipline “norms”.
Our Approach
Our understanding and familiarity with the barriers facing women in academia gave us an edge.
First, we sought to understand the strengths of the client framed in the actual context of the workplace and existing team. We worked hard with the client to articulate these in a language that was clear and strong.
We supported the client to have conversations with supervisors and senior leaders and edited the application. We defined gaps and set clear goals on changes we could make within the timeframe available.
After the application was submitted, we coached and mentored the applicant building on communicating their achievements. We role played scenarios to build confidence and preparedness, addressing active real-life challenges she was facing at the workplace.
The Outcome
Our client naturally grew in confidence and was successful in promotion. She is now an Associate Professor at a leading Australian University.
